Costco Thermometer, FLTR Non Contact Infrared

I saw this Costco thermometer the other day. I hadn’t seen thermometers in a while since COVID-19 (coronavirus) lockdowns started. They used to sell the Exergen Temporal Artery thermometer, which we purchased a while back. Now they have available this non-contact thermometer. Scroll for photos. I see these at work & at the store. When I get my haircut, I get scanned. It’s starting to feel like I get my temperature taken almost everyday, which is probably a good thing. This is a great product to have handy around the house. Even when they lift restrictions, you may want to be extra cautious and take everyone’s temperature. This makes it so easy & is non-invasive & it has become sort of the norm. Here are a few more details about this Costco thermometer…..

    1. Did you check to make sure that batteries aren’t dead? Sometimes in these devices, the batteries don’t actually make contact with the pins so the device won’t work. Double check the pins / spring to make sure they are making contact with the + & – side of the battery. You may need to use a small screwdriver or needle nose pliers. Let me know if that works.

  1. I bought this on Wednesday and all that it says is “hi” it wont give me any other numbers or anything. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

    1. Did you take the batteries out & leave them out for a few minutes? Does holding the trigger down for an extended period of time do anything? Are you making sure to release the trigger & keep it pointed at the forehead? Let me know if you figure it out

  2. I had the same problem that
Mary, Dec. 19, 2020 had. Anytime I try to take a temperature all I got was the reading “Lo.” It was very frustrating. I even opened a ticket with the company. What I discovered is that I was removing it from the persons forehead before and had a chance to calculate a temperature. Eureka! Now I love the thing.

    1. That’s great to know Kathy. Maybe other users with the same issue will find that helpful. Thanks so much for letting me know. Glad you enjoy the product

  3. Bought this item and it did not have batteries, I did put in batteries but I cannot get the conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit?

    1. Did you try holding the button down? Maybe double tap or triple tap? I have 3 – 4 different thermometers & they all seems to have a different pattern to change from Celsius to Fahrenheit & vice versa. Please let me know if that works

  4. Just got this thermometer this morning. Doesn’t seem to work. I click the trigger once to turn on and click the trigger for 1 sec to get a temp reading. The screen doesn’t show a reading.

    1. Hi Tom. It should be fairly straightforward to operate. If it’s not working, you may have a broken one. You can always return it & get the 2 pack that goes for just $5 – $10 more. Let me know if you end up figuring out the issue. Thanks

  5. Anyone get an email from the manufacturer offering free batteries due to the battery error on the packaging? Seems legit, but I’m just making sure it’s not a scam.

    1. Ya, that sounds like it’s correct. I’m sure many people complained or returned the item to Costco, so the company is making it right. You can always double check the contact information in the email to make sure its directly from the company. They should only require proof of purchase & an address to ship the batteries & not require a credit card. Let me know if it ends up being legit, so others can claim their free batteries. Thanks!

      1. Hiya Costco Fan – I bought the FLTR TMP102 Article #1476366 Infrared Thermometer back on 01/07/21 myself and the packaging clearly states in (3) different places that (2) AAA batteries are INCLUDED! There are NOT ANY Batteries included in the sealed packaging. Rather that waste resources (gas/time) driving back to my distant Costco, whom do I contact about getting the batteries? Based on the packaging the manufacturer is in China – this is not a very convenient location to try to get (2) batteries so I can see if this unit actually works. Your contact knowledge would be very helpful in getting this false advertising corrected. Thank you.

        1. So it sounds like the manufacturer sent out an email offering free batteries. I would email them directly & or call. The email is “[email protected]” & their phone number is 1-888-525-FLTR (3587). They should be able to get you the 2 free batteries. If that doesn’t work you can either return it or keep it. Also keep in mind that the 2 pack of FLTR thermometers is $39.99 online right now. It’s $10 off through 1/24/2021. I hope that helps

  6. Maybe you can help.

We got this and it has power. It works…but doesn’t show the actual temp, just “Lo” etc, if it shows anything at all.

    Any hints or tips?

Honestly, I’ve been thru the instructions every which way.

Fancy thermometers have never really worked for us.

    Thanks!

    1. It could be that you’re not using it close enough. Are you just a few inches off the person’s forehead. Did they just come in from outside where maybe their forehead is too cold? It looks like the bottom measurement is 95 degrees, so if the person’s skin is colder than that it may read “Lo”. You can always try to heat up a pot of water & test the thermometer on that to make sure it’s working. It could also be that maybe it’s just a bad unit and you need to get it replaced. I’ve used over a dozen of these thermometer in the last few months. They all seem to work pretty well. Please let me know if any of those ideas work. Thanks

  7. I was happy to get a thermometer after trying for months but then I noticed Costco has a two pack for $49. Now I feel like I got cheated. The 2Pac had a lot of different settings on the side of the thermometer that my $34 thermometer does not have

    1. I did just look online & see the 2 pack for $49.99. You’re right! Take it back & grab the 2 pack. That’s the great thing about Costco’s return policy. I haven’t seen the 2 pack in my stores yet, although I haven’t looked through the COVID-19 related stuff recently. I’ll see if they have it next time because it is FSA Eligible & I still have a few $$ to spend. Thanks for the tip on that 2 pack. Can’t hurt to have a few of these laying around. BTW…..the extra settings look like they are 1. There is also a Surface mode that lets you measure surfaces (including liquids) up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit & 2. The integrated Fever Alarm automatically shows a person’s temperature with a green, orange, or red display so you instantly see if they have a normal, elevated, or high temperature.

      Hope that helps. Thanks

  8. bought this yesterday 12/11/2020 at my local Costco, no batteries inside. the package indicate DC 3.0V(2xAAA batteries, included)

    1. Sorry to hear Bill. In this post you can see a photo of the back of the package. It says DC 3.0V (2 x AAA Batteries, Not Included). You may have different packaging, but I know the FLTR Thermometers at my local Costco do NOT come with batteries. Sorry for the confusion Bill. I hope that helps.

    2. I purchased the FLTR TMP102 about the same time as well. The item specifically stated it had batteries included when reading the specifications on back. It also states inside the manual batteries are included that is until you read the section removing batteries which then indicate they are not included. I think they are misleading and should be corrected. I know it’s only two batteries, but you should get what is stated on the packaging.

      1. You’re absolutely right Robert. They may have changed the packaging & you received the older packaging. I wouldn’t be happy either if I was expecting 2 batteries & didn’t receive them. That can be the difference between a good review & a bad one. I hope the device still works well for you though. Thanks for the comment & letting us know the model number.

        1. I just bought this on 12/28 from Costco. Packaging ckearky states 2 AAA batteries included.
I’ve not yet opened it as I’m reading reviews.

          1. It sounds like another reviewer mentioned that if you don’t get the batteries, the company will ship them to you. Do you plan on returning the item? You can always see how you like the product & return it if you don’t like it. Let me know what you end up deciding

  9. I know you probably already checked, but is it possible the batteries are dead? You also mention that you click the trigger once. I believe clicking it once, turns it on. Did you click it again to take the temp? Here are the directions for taking the room temperature…… “Press and release the Power button to power on. The thermometer will enter the self-check procedure, the three status lights at the top of the screen will be lit in green, orange, and red order, when the red light is on, hold down the Power button until the thermometer completes self-check and enters the room temperature measurement interface, the symbol will be displayed on the screen. Press and release the button. About 1 second later, a beep will be heard and the reading will be obtained.” If none of that works, you may have a defective unit. Please let me know if you get it working. Thanks

  10. Bought this at my local Costco and it doesn’t seem to be working. Put the batteries in and hit the trigger but it’s not reading any temps, the screen turns on but it just shows a default screen and shuts off. Wondering if you had this issue and there’s a way to set it up or calibrate it? Thanks!
