Costco Calrose Rice, Homai Medium Grain White Rice

We’ve purchased this 50 pound sack of rice a couple times. I enjoy all different types of rice so I am not particular when it comes to brand & type. This Costco calrose rice is a medium grain white rice. It is a premium sushi rice that is grown in the USA. We go through phases of eating it. Some weeks we’ll eat it 4-5 times & others we may not touch it for a month. One of my favorite meals is to make a pot of fresh rice, BBQ any type of meat (fish, chicken, beef, etc) & throw that on top with some vegetables. It’s easy, quick, cheap & healthy. During the beginning COVID-19 (coronavirus), you couldn’t find rice on the shelves. They were pretty much sold out everywhere as people were hoarding. Since then I have seen just about everything stock on shelves regularly, except maybe wipes. Anyways, it’s always good to have a bag of this around. It stores well & can be ready in less than 30 minutes. Here’s a few more details about this Costco calrose rice…….

Costco Calrose Rice, Homai Premium Sushi Grade

Make sure to read the directions on the back. I was so used to the last bag I purchased I just cooked it with 2 cups water to 1 cup rice. I ended up making rice soup and throwing it out. This is only 1 1/4 cups water to 1 cup rice when using the saucepan. When using an electric rice cooker you are going to want to use 2 cups water to 1 1/2 cup rice. That bring me to my next point. Do yourself a favor and get an Instant Pot or a good electric rice cooker. They are so easy to use & make cooking a breeze. Make sure to check out these REALLY NICE rice cookers as well as the Instant Pot…..

  1. Do you know hoe long this lasts say in mylar bags? I bagged some up and then worried shorter grains don’t last as long. It seems fine after a year or so. I didn’t realize it was medium grain. That makes me a little less nervous.

    1. These should last for years depending on the conditions. It all depends on how you stored it…… sealed? unsealed? humidity? temperature? As long as it still looks good I wouldn’t worry about it. As long as you don’t see bugs, water or mold you should be good.

  2. im intrested to buy rice from you, you mind walk me through the steps, of what i should do, or requirement for me to be a member so i can start shopping please.

    1. You can only buy this in-store. If you order large enough quantities, you can always try Costco Business & have them deliver. Hope that helps
